Shabu Shabu – The Japanese Version of Fondue

Shabu Shabu - Beef slices fondue

Shabu-shabu sounds complicated but is basically a Japanese variation of Fondue, inspired by the Chinese. Shabu shabu is made using thin and tender slices of beef. It’s usually prepared by taking the slice of beef with the chopsticks, then swishing it in a boiling pot of water and then dipped in a special sauce before it is eaten.

Despite the fact that tradition requires shabu shabu to be eaten with beef, Japanese people eat it with all other kinds of meat, ranking from chicken, to lobster, fish or pork.
